Research shows that early reading skills predict success in elementary and high school education. I support empowering parents and daycare caregivers with skills for reading with children before they reach age 4 or 5 years.
Sixty five percent of graduates of our two local public-school systems do not pursue further education. My teacher friends tell me the limitation is the home. I think we need to help children ages 9 to 13 or 14 imagine themselves choosing to prepare for employment that lets them rise above poverty.
High-speed internet is necessary infrastructure for the student of today and the employee of tomorrow. This infrastructure is lacking in parts of northeast Hall County. The 2018 legislature passed legislation creating a structure for future funding of rural broadband. I will support funding of this program now.
